Kid’s Club is a weekly after school program for 3rd to 5th grade students to experience hands-on learning at The Hacktory. Each session provides a fun project that explores concepts of simple machines, basic electronics, computer programming, digital fabrication and multimedia production. Students learn how to use a variety of hand and small power tools with close adult supervision. All materials costs are included in the session fee, and students get to take their projects home when finished. We rigorously test all projects so we know they will be fun and reasonably attainable, but we also leave room for failure and experimentation along the way.
All teachers and volunteers are experienced in teaching and working with kids, and are subject to a thorough background check.
Fees: $35 per session with confirmation by Wednesday of each week. If you would like to purchase all 8 sessions in advance, a $280 value, we can provide a 10% discount for a total of $250.
Current series: Fridays October 2 through November 20.
Drop-in Policy: In order to have enough materials on hand, and offer flexibility for parents, we are now asking parents to confirm their child is attending by 5 pm on the Wednesday before each session. Participants confirmed by this time via the form below will be charged the usual $35 rate. Participants who are not confirmed will be welcomed, though they will be charged a rate of $40 for the session.
We accept payments via cash, credit card, and check.
Location/Main Workshop: Department of Making + Doing, 3711 Market Street, Ground floor, Philadelphia PA 19104
Pick up details: We can pick up students from Penn Alexander school and Powelton with parental consent. Attendees from other schools must make their own transportation arrangements to reach The Hacktory at this time.
