Last week at Meredith Elementary School, Kid’s Club got musical as we made three-string guitars!
Students used power drills to prep their guitar necks for strings and tuning machine heads, and then power drivers to attach the necks to their cigar box guitar bodies.
With a pre-measured guide for reference, students marked the fret spacing on the necks of their guitars. Toothpick frets were then affixed to the necks using white PVA glue. Once the glue was fully dried and the fret placement was secure, the overhanging ends of the toothpicks can be snapped off and sanded down.Once the machine head hardware was attached and secured, students added a simple nut and bridge that were made from pre-cut threaded rod. From there, all that’s left to do is string, tune, and play away!
