What is 3D printing? Why is everyone talking about it like it’s the next best thing? How can you get started designing and printing your own ideas? In this workshop series, we’ll answer these questions, and much more. Participants will get a broad understanding of the 3D fabrication movement, they will have a chance to start working with 3D models and file formats, learn about how to set up files for printing. We’ll also delve into more advanced topics including parametric modeling, machine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
More About the Instructor
Georgia Guthrie is a designer, maker, and artist. As Executive Director of The Hacktory she works to create opportunities for anyone to creatively tinker and learn about technology. She’s lead the organization to be named “Best of Philly” for adult classes, to be featured in an episode of America’s Greatest Makers, and was invited to participate in the Obama Administration Nation of Makers initiative to further grow and diversify makerspaces. She’s presented and written about the gender gap in STEM for Make Magazine and other publications. After securing a new workshop for the organization on Lancaster Ave in 2016, Georgia continues to grow The Hacktory as a hub of creativity, a resource for educators, and a leader as an inclusive and diverse makerspace.
A limited number of $250 scholarships are available for this course. Our selection committee will prioritize scholarship awards to practicing artists, educators, and others who are under-represented in STEM fields.
