Get Involved

There are lots of ways to get involved with the Hacktory, as a student, teacher, or volunteer.

Classes

Take a class

Check out our calendar for great upcoming classes. We have events for all levels on a variety of topics, from electronics to music to programming.

Teach a class

Everyone knows something that’s interesting. What’s your hobby or special skill? We can help you turn it into a class, workshop, or talk.

If you have an idea for a class you’d like to teach, email us or tell us at Project Night/Open House. We try to schedule classes 2-3 months ahead of time. Classes can be any length, but we find they work better if a single session doesn’t go longer than 2 or 3 hours.

Help us help you make something

We want to make it easier for you to create awesome project and show it off. If you have a great idea, we have tools, equipment, and expertise to bring it to reality.

Come to Project Night, every Thursday, 7-9pm

Bring a project you’re working on, or an idea you’d like help with. See our blog for more about what folks have been doing at Project Nights.

Come to Soft Circuit Saturday, every second Saturday, 1-4pm

The second Saturday of the month is Soft Circuit Saturday. The term “soft circuits” refers to a mash-up of electronics and crafts, sometimes with innovative materials like conductive thread or microcontrollers that can go in the washing machine.

Ask our email list

Got a sticky technical question, looking for cool junk to reuse, or just want to brainstorm your next project? Try out our community list.

Fundraising

Donate money

Use the form in the sidebar to donate through Paypal. Or write checks to our fiscal sponsor, The Miami Foundation, with “The Hacktory” in the memo line, and mail them to:

200 South Biscayne Boulevard | Suite 505
Miami, FL 33131-5330

Help us ask other people to donate money

Of course we’d like you to tell your friends how cool we are and get them to donate. We also have a list of people to contact for fundraising. If you’re able to help us stuff envelopes or make phone calls, please email us for more information.

Help us plan an event

We’re making big plans for 2013, potentially including another masquerade ball plus costuming workshops, participating in design/tech events around town, starting an after-school program, and turning our Hacking the Gender Gap workshop into a web activity. If you’d like to help with logistics for these, or run a workshop, drop us a line.

Outreach

Write a blog post

The Hacktory is looking for volunteers to contribute to our blog. If you’ve taken a class, come to a Project Night, or found something interesting that you want to share, consider writing a post about it.

Represent the Hacktory at local events

The Hacktory is regularly invited to table or run activities at events around Philadelphia. This is a great way to reach people who haven’t heard of us but are interested in the same things we are—art, technology, education. Join our volunteer list to hear about these opportunities as they come up.

Tell us about events we should show up to

Philadelphia is filled with nifty talks, seminar series, unconferences, and panel discussions. Send us event details and we’ll put it on our calendar.

Invite us to talk at your event

Are you organizing an event that would appreciate hearing about the Hacktory and what we do? Tell us when and where you are, and we’ll see if we can join your program.
